Smart Techniques in Urban Planning & Technology

Support

This book summarizes the latest studies regarding innovation in urban design and planning. It shares many tips and insights about sustainable solutions for the issues facing transport systems, innovative digital technologies, and ICT trends. The book touches upon the need to integrate the three fields of Architecture, Engineering, and Technology that have become indispensable. This is intended to respond to the increasing human needs and population growth in cities on one hand and to develop a holistic approach that helps overcome challenges to sustainability and environment management on the other hand.

With the power of engineering in practice, problems of design and development once considered too complex to be dealt with other than empirically, intuitively, or by trial and error, are now becoming more solvable and applicable. This book offers strategies and solutions that enable designers to bring together knowledge in the fields of architecture, engineering, and technology to overcome challenges facing in modern times.

A propos de l’auteur

Professor of Sustainable Design and Architectural Engineering in the Faculty of Design, and Director of Research Centre at Arkin University of Creative Arts and Design (ARUCAD) in Kyrenia, Cyprus. He is a Chartered Architect (RIBA) and a Chartered Engineer (CIBSE) with over 20 years of academic and practice experience in the field of Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) in the Built Environment in UK, Europe, Middle East and North Africa (MENA) regions. Prof. Dr. Altan sits on a number of editorial boards and reviews project proposals for the European Commission, UK Research Councils, and Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF) by Qatar Foundation. Since 2004, he has, singly or jointly, secured and directed 32 research grants worth over £21 million. He is a founding member of the International Network on Zero Energy Mass Custom Home (ZEMCH), which has so far organised eight international conferences, several design workshops, and numerous technical visits. As well ashaving supervised 17 successful Ph D students, Prof. Dr. Altan has published over 250-refereed journal and conference papers in related fields.

Samad Sepasgozar completed his Ph.D. in Engineering, Construction, and Management at the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering UNSW Australia. The faculty of Engineering UNSW offered him Postdoctoral Fellowship, which was a competitive position for newly graduated students with a high-quality thesis. Samad’s excellent research capability has been demonstrated by conducting an empirical study to investigate the extremely complex issues related to the practices of technology adoption and implementation in construction and develop a uniform framework for understanding the related processes. His recent papers clearly indicate his capability in mixed research methods (i.e., qualitative and quantitative) and in interdisciplinary areas of building construction, technology (e.g., equipment, BIM, and laser scanners) andmanagement (at organization and project levels). His other interested themes are related to creating needs and applications for new technologies (e.g., Geo-ICT, Laser Scanners, BIM, and GIS) in order to solve problems in construction, transportation, and urban planning. He also worked in other research areas such as green technologies, disaster management, and construction education.

Alessandro Severino is graduated in Architecture and Engineering from the Kore University of Enna, Italy. In 2018, he obtained his Ph D. Currently he works as an assistant professor at the University of Catania—Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture, his scientific research is oriented to the construction, maintenance, and management of transport infrastructures and, more precisely, in the following disciplines: implementation of accident prediction road models; modeling of the operating conditions of road intersections regulated by traffic light schemes and roundabouts; analysis with advanced methods of microsimulation of transport infrastructure networks; applications of intelligent systems (ITS) in the management of road traffic and transport infrastructure networks; implementation of automated vehicle systems.

Abdul Lateef A. Olanrewaju is an assistant professor at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman. He gained his master of science in the built environment from the International Islamic University Malaysia and his doctorate from Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS Malaysia. He received his quantity surveying education at Kaduna Polytechnic, Nigeria. His academic activities center on lecturing and research associated with value management, research methodology, and construction project management. He has authored and co-authored several scientific papers. Olanrewaju is a referee for leading journals. His current research and proficiency concentrates on: building maintenance, affordable housing delivery, ethical issues in construction industry, procurement, quantity surveying, and value management.

Francisco José García-Peñalvo is Full Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Automation at the University of Salamanca (USAL), with three six-year periods of research, one six-year period of transferring and innovation, and four five-year periods of recognized teaching. He received the Beatriz Galindo award for teaching excellence in 2019. He was also Distinguished Professor at the School of Humanities and Education at the Tecnológico de Monterrey, Mexico, and  Researcher of International Impact at the Universidad Nacional San Agustín, Arequipa, Peru. Since 2006 he is the head of the Research Group Recognized by the USAL GRIAL (research GRoup on Inter Action and e Learning), a group that is a Consolidated Research Unit of the Junta de Castilla y León Government (UIC 81). He has been Vice-Dean of Innovation and New Technologies of the Faculty of Sciences of the USAL between 2004and 2007 and Vice-Rector of Technological Innovation of this University between 2007 and 2009. He is currently the Rector’s Delegate for Virtual Teaching and the Coordinator of the Doctorate Program in Education in the Knowledge Society at USAL. He is Editor-in-Chief of the journals Education in the Knowledge Society and Journal of the Information Technology Research, and Associate Editor of many journals, with a special mention to the journal Computers in Human Behavior Reports. He has published more than 100 research papers in JCR-indexed journal (52 Q1).

Tiko Iyamu holds Ph D in information systems from the University of Cape Town, South Africa. Currently, Iyamu is Research Professor at the Faculty of Informatics and Design, Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT), Cape Town, South Africa.
