Explore Discover Imagine Count – a chook collage for counting from 1 – 10.

A digital version of the original composition using colour photographs from the artist’s own collection, this structured collage provides the opportunity for children to imagine their own narrative as they explore Barossa Nanna’s garden, discovering chooks among the flowers while counting their way from one to ten.

Collage is about reinventing and recycling and repurposing. It’s a magical process which invites and encourages collecting, combining, experimenting; transforming with everyday materials.

Unique handmade original concertina counting book created for Bianca and for exhibition at the South Australian Living Artists (SALA) Festival Exhibition 2020 Andamooka.

This digital version to share with those who enjoy chooks, flower-filled gardens, collage and using their imaginations.

A propos de l’auteur

Heather Gordon is an Australian artist, author and gardener. Heather’s productive, flower filled garden is home to chooks (chickens) and bees. The external walls of her ordinary cream brick house have been transformed by mosaic into an extraordinary glittering haven. Heather writes and collages what she knows – chooks, gardening and travel adventures.
‘Barossa Nanna and the Lonely Chook’ was Heather’s first published book. It gently deals with grief and loss in a way that children can understand.
Heather’s ten year plan to transform the exterior of her ordinary cream brick home into an extraordinary mosaic haven is now complete (2010 – 2020). Heather is transitioning from Mosaic to Collage; repurposing and recycling everyday objects while recreating and reinventing. Heather has a five year plan to create collage and publish children’s stories.
Heather has worked extensively in rural and remote regions of Australia. Heather’s love of the Australian landscape is reflected in her photography and mosaics; and now, collage.
‘Barossa Nanna and the Chook Collage’ is her first published counting collage for children.
Heather’s garden has previously been featured in Australia’s Open Garden Scheme (2014) and in an episode of ‘Poh and Co’ (2015).
