“The Aspern Papers” was first published in London by Henry James in 1888 in «The Atlantic Monthly» and by Macmillan & Co. in the same year. Henry James (1843–1916), who was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1911, 1912 and 1916, was american but he spent the most of his career in Britain. He is still one of the most important writers of the 19th-century.
