İmam Bakır Kanlı is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Political Science, Department of Political Science and Public Administration at Marmara University in Istanbul, Turkey. He received his Bachelor »s Degree in Urban and Regional Planning Department from Yıldız Technical University, Istanbul, in 1991. In 1994 he completed his MBA Programme at the same university. After that he received his PhD degree in the field of Regional Planning from Istanbul Technical University in 2004. Kanlı also took part in an international project named « Local Agenda 21 in Turkey » as Secretary General of Sakarya Province supported by UNDP. Regarding his academic publishing history, Kanlı has 7 book chapters to his name—one of which was published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing—and is the editor of 2 collections. He has 12 articles published as well as 28 conference proceedings. His academic research interests focus on sustainability, cooperatives, neighbourhoods and urban studies including urban identity and local governments.
