The author was born in Guadalajara, Mexico, in 1983 and raised in South Central Los Angeles, California, USA, by his single mother, who worked hard to help him grow and have everything he needed. He has always kept his Mexican cultural roots close to his heart as he remembers his grandmother teaching him the arts of the land, music, and the power of the human spirit. Through the traditions of Mexican folklore, festivals, religion, and the mysticism of the unknown, he has been able to incorporate storytelling into his paintings and into his written work. He also understands the importance of the American culture and its influences in his work and in his person, the pursuit of the American dream, equality, justice, and the greatness of diversity that make up the country. Chávez understands that the beauty of an individual comes from within, from life struggles and perseverance. He hopes that through art and written work, he could connect with many and inspire them to enjoy the journey that life brings, understanding that no matter the difficulty one may face, there is always a way to conquer and survive, allowing ourselves through the darkness and stepping into the light with the hope and privilege of beginning a new day.
