He has worked in different capacities in the Planning Commission of India and also as Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Government of India. He did his M.A. (Economics) from Calcutta University as well as from Manchester University. He has to his credit a book Facets of Indian Poverty, published by Concept Publishing Company (2002)
