Im Juni 2018 wurde sie zur Bürgermeisterin der Gemeinde Hallig Hooge gewählt. Ihr erfolgreicher Erstling »Barfuß auf dem Sommerdeich« stand monatelang auf der Spiegel-Bestsellerliste.
