In ‘Corporate Climbing’, the author captures identifiable snapshots of life within a dysfunctional workplace filled with many toxic ‘isms’: racism, elitism, sexism, classism, etc. Hughes introduces a supernatural defining event and then proceeds to blend the macabre with the modern. As a horror-thriller, the story pays homage to the horror genre as well as providing its own nuances, which the author trusts readers will enjoy, remember, and appreciate based on the use of unconventional protagonists, set within interesting situations, yielding to spine-chilling and often unexpected results. Kevin’s goal as a writer transcends merely providing a good old-fashioned scare, but also encompasses providing a bold, compelling, socially conscious narrative that will resonate with readers.
