Geoffrey Chaucer (c. 1343–1400) was an English poet, author, and civil servant, often hailed as the father of English literature. His body of work includes « Troilus and Criseyde,  » an epic poem that significantly contributed to the development of British literature »s canon. Chaucer »s ingenious use of iambic pentameter and his skillful characterizations in « The General Prologue » to « The Canterbury Tales » have secured his status as an innovative storyteller whose legacy continues to shape the fabric of English literary tradition. In addition to his contributions to literature, Chaucer »s life as a public servant—serving as a diplomat and Clerk of the King »s Works—provided him with a wealth of experiences that enriched his writing.
