Mathias Alubafi Fubah is a Senior Research Specialist in the Human and Social Development Research Programme at the Human Sciences Research Council and a Research Associate in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at the University of Limpopo, South Africa. His research interest and expertise is in traditional and contemporary African art, particularly the art of the western Grassfields, Cameroon. His recent work focused on anti-hegemonic iconographies and was based on case studies conducted in the Grassfields and South Africa. He is a reviewer for African Studies Review, International Migration, Global Media and Communication, and Imbizo: International Journal of African Literary and Comparative Studies, among others. He authored a chapter in Museum Storage and Meaning: Tales From the Crypt (2018), and recently completed a major project (in which he was the Principal Investigator) focusing on historical statues and monuments in South Africa.
