Michel Corrette (1707-1795) est né à Rouen. Organiste, compositeur, pédagogue, éditeur, il laisse une oeuvre importante, où figurent des pièces pour clavier (orgue ou clavecin), de la musique religieuse, de chambre, des concertos, des compositions pour choeur ou pour chant accompagné, des opéras et des ballets, mais aussi des écrits théoriques et pédagogiques pour clavecin, violon, violoncelle, flûte.
Son écriture est empreinte à la fois du style français et du style italien, et il précise dans plusieurs écrits pédagogiques la manière d’exécuter les ornements, le phrasé.
