Theodor Noldeke (1836-1930) was a linguist, historian, biblical scholar, and Islamicist of the highest caliber. He taught at the universities of Gottingen, Kiel, and Strasbourg. Among his many publications are « Mandaean Grammar », « Sketches from Eastern History », « The Iranian National Epic », « Geschichte des Qorans », « Die alttestamentliche Literatur », and « Zur Grammatik des classischen Arabisch ».
