‘Jude the Obscure’ is the last novel published by Thomas Hardy in 1895. This work is considered a heretic (a copy of the book was burned in public by the bishop of Exeter).The protagonist of the story is Jude Fawley, a young man belonging to the proletariat who has the dream of becoming a writer. Thus, despite his rather poor social status, he decides to try to enter in a prestigious university. Jude, then he leaves for the city of ‘Christminster’ and here, first, he works as a bricklayer to maintain himself.
