Kurt Röttgers (Professor i. R.) war von 1973 bis 2007 Mitherausgeber des Historischen Wörterbuchs der Philosophie. Er forschte und lehrte von 1984 bis 2009 als Professor für Philosophie, insbesondere Praktische Philosophie, an der Fern Universität in Hagen. Im Jahr 2010 ernannte ihn die Ungarische Akademie der Wissenschaften in Budapest zum Ehrenmitglied. Seine Arbeitsschwerpunkte sind Sozialphilosophie, Geschichtsphilosophie und Philosophie der Medialität.
