‘Demons’ (often also translated as ‘Evil Spirits’, ‘The Devils’ or ‘The Possessed’) is a novel of the famous Russian writer Fyodor Mikhaylovich Dostoyevsky (1821-1881) and was first published in 1873.
The story of the book plays during the period of pre-revolutionary Russia (late 19th century). Tsarist domination and traditional values ​​have increasingly been shaken. The various ideologies, such as conservatism, liberalism, nihilism and socialism, are represented in Dostoevsky´s novel through the different protagonists.
