About the author


George du Maurier (1834–1896) was a British cartoonist whose work appeared in Punch. He also wrote several novels, the best known of which is Trilby, published in 1894. In one of his cartoons du Maurier coined the term “bedside manner.” He was the grandfather of Daphne du Maurier, author of the acclaimed novel, Rebecca.
