About the author

Helen Jefferson Lenskyj was Professor of Sociology and Equity Studies in Education at the University of Toronto, Canada from 1986 until her retirement in 2007. She has been involved in a wide range of community activist groups since the 1970s. Her most recent publications include The Palgrave Handbook of Olympic Studies (co-edited with S. Wagg) and Gender Politics and the Olympic Industry.
