About the author
Hannibal Hamlin Garland (1860–1940) was an American writer best remembered for his popular novels and memoirs depicting the hard life of the Midwestern farmer, many informed by his own Midwestern upbringing. His autobiographical work, A Daughter of the Middle Border, won the 1922 Pulitzer Prize for biography.
