Henry Mills Alden (1836–1919) was an American writer and editor. A graduate of Williams College, Alden also studied at the Andover Theological Seminary but was never ordained a minister. After holding the position of managing editor, he became the editor at Harper”s Magazine in 1869 and continued in the position until his death in 1919. He wielded enormous influence in the literary world and counted many literary giants among his friends, including Harriet Beecher Stowe and Mark Twain. Among his writings are God in His World (1890) and A Study of Death (1895).
