Albert Cohen, geboren 1895 auf Korfu, starb 1981 in Genf. Er gilt als einer der wichtigsten französischsprachigen Autoren des 20. Jahrhunderts. Sein Hauptwerk ist die Romantetralogie »Solal«. Den größten Erfolg feierte er mit dessen dritten Teil »Die Schöne des Herrn«, der 1968 in Frankreich und 1987 zum ersten Mal bei Klett-Cotta erschien.
