كامل كيلاني هو كاتب وأديب مصري، اتجه نحو أدب الأطفال وأصبح يعرف برائد أدب الطفل. قدم العديد من الأعمال الرائعة التي استهدفت الأطفال، وترجمت أعماله إلى عدة لغات من بينها الصينية والروسية والإسبانية والإنجليزية والفرنسية. وهو أول من خاطب الأطفال عبر الإذاعة وأسس أول مكتبة للأطفال في مصر.
وُلد كامل كيلاني إبراهيم كيلاني في القاهرة عام ١٨٩٧م، حفظ القرآن الكريم في صغره وانتقل إلى مدرسة أم عباس الابتدائية، ثم انضم إلى مدرسة القاهرة الثانوية، والتحق بالجامعة المصرية القديمة عام ١٩١٧م. عمل أيضا كموظف حكومي في وزارة الأوقاف لمدة اثنين وثلاثين عاما، حيث تقدم في المسار الوظيفي حتى أصبح سكرتير مجلس الأوقاف الأعلى. وكان أيضا سكرتيرا لرابطة الأدب العربي ورئيسا لصحيفة الرجاء ونادي التمثيل الحديث. وكان يعمل في مجال الصحافة ويهتم بالأدب والفنون.
اعتمد كيلاني منهجا مميزا وأسلوبا عبقريا في كتابته لأدب الأطفال، حيث أصر على ضرورة التركيز على اللغة الفصحى لعدم إحداث قطيعة ثقافية مع الذات التاريخية. وكان يمزج بين المنهج التربوي والتعليمي، وكان حريصا على إبراز الجانب الأخلاقي والمعياري في أعماله القصصية. كما كان يشجع على تنمية مهارات التذوق الفني والمعرفة لدى الطفل. وكان يركز على الصفات الحميدة والخصال النبيلة والسلوك الحسن.
كان لكيلاني إسهامات في مجالات أخرى غير أدب الأطفال حيث ترجم وكتب في أدب الرحلات والتاريخ. توفي عام ١٩٥٩م، وترك وراءه تراثا أدبيا كبيرا يستفيد منه الصغار والكبار.
