Haunted by a crippling creative block, composer Imin Teral seeks solace not in the bustling metropolis of Elanthe, but in the eerie silence of the forgotten planet Miraxis.  Summoned by the Interstellar Conservatory to create a symphony inspired by the planet’s unique flora, Imin finds herself immersed in a world veiled in a bioluminescent shroud of sentient fungi – the Whisperers. These pulsating organisms hold the echoes of a vanished civilization, their iridescent spores whispering secrets of a symbiotic past.  But the whispers are a siren song, weaving their way into Imin’s mind, unlocking memories that are not her own.
As Imin’s symphony takes shape, so too does her connection to the Whisperers, mirroring the tragic fate of the Miraxians who lost themselves in the pursuit of unity.  Visions of Anya, a luminous being yearning for transcendence, and Kael, her brother desperately trying to balance technology and nature, become interwoven with Imin’s own creative struggle.  The deeper she delves into the symphony, the more blurred the lines become between creator and creation, between individual consciousness and the collective mind of the planet.
With the pragmatic xeno-botanist Deanna Hawkins watching in growing alarm, Imin must confront a harrowing choice: surrender to the luminous allure of the moss, becoming a note within the eternal song of Miraxis, or sever the connection, abandoning her masterpiece and the haunting melodies forever.  The symphony, born from the luminous moss and Imin’s own soul, becomes a testament to the beauty and danger of creation, a question whispered into the silent expanse of the universe: how far will we go to find our place in the grand symphony of existence?
