Franceli Chapman-Varela is an award winning bilingual Afro-Latina actor, writer, producer, and hails from a theater background. Franceli has been scribbling poems in her notebooks since she was a child. Her evocative verses earned her spots at open mics and has been selected to perform for/at LA River Arts, Dominican Writers, Los Angeles Poets Society, Melrose Trading Post, Last Bookstore, Village Well Bookstore, and even hit the stage in France at Paris Lit up. She was a featured poet for Latin America: A spoken word play. ‘Broken’ a spoken word short which she starred in and directed screened at the Caribbean American International Film Festival. Her screenplay, Broken got her a spot working with Latina Show-runner Tanya Saracho in the writer’s room for Brujas on Starz. Ms. Chapman was a Semi-Finalist in 2018 and then winner in 2019 of the Restoration Art & Frank Silvera Writer’s Workshop 50for50 Letters to Our Daughter’s contest curated by Tony-Nominated writer, Dominque Morriseau. Franceli won a scholarship for Alegria Publishing’s writing classes where Between Spaces was written. As a broadcast/Journalism graduate Ms. Chapman right after college wrote a one act play, ‘A Work in Progress’ that was produced at Castillo Theater in New York. She went on to write for publications; Houston Style Magazine, Broadway Black, and Soul Essence Magazine. Her short story, A Runner’s Heart was featured in Audible book: ‘Talking while Female and Other Dangerous Acts.
