The need for special education in Africa is uncontested. With extreme poverty, perennial hunger, severe malnutrition, rampant disease, conflict and frequent wars, Africa seems to possess all the ingredients that put children at risk for disability. Unfortunately, the general education curriculum is failing to meet the needs of this population. Special education is therefore, a necessity. However, special education is still quite underdeveloped in most of Africa.
