Pat Southern (Altrincham, Gran Bretaña, 1948), especialista en la historia de Roma, estudió Arqueología e Historia Antigua en las universidades de Londres y Newcastle upon Tyne. Fue durante muchos años bibliotecaria de la Universidad de Newcastle. Ha escrito más de una decena de libros, especialmente dedicados al ejército romano y a figuras prominentes de la Roma clásica, entre los que destacan The Late Roman Army (1996), Domitian: Tragic Tyrant (1997), Augusto (2001), Julius Caesar (2001), The Roman Army: A Social and Institutional History (2007) y Ancient Rome: The Rise and Fall of an Empire (2009).
