Joachim Grage is a Professor of Scandinavian Studies at the University of Freiburg, Germany. His current areas of research include the history of Scandinavian Studies in Europe, the cultural transfer between the Nordic and German-speaking countries as well as performativity and literary practice. He is also co-editor of the German edition of Søren Kierkegaard”s works.Thomas Mohnike is a Professor of Scandinavian Studies at the University of Strasbourg, France. He is currently working on geographies of belonging in 19th century European comparative philology, the cultural circulation of Old Norse narratives in modern times and God in 20th century Scandinavian literature and art.Grage and Mohnike have worked together on the project Building the North with Words: Geographies of Scientific Knowledge in European Philologies 1850–1950, funded by the Institutes for Advanced Studies of their home universities, since 2013.
