Violet Hunt (1862–1942) was an English writer and literary hostess who carved her space in the literary landscape of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Born into a well-connected family of artists and writers, she was the daughter of the pre-Raphaelite painter Alfred William Hunt, which allowed her to cultivate relationships within the intellectual circles of her time. Hunt was a prolific author and feminist; her works often intertwine sharp social commentary with depictions of female independence—features that framed much of the “New Woman” fiction during that period. One of her notable works, “The Celebrity at Home, ” delves into the nature of fame and its impact on personal relationships, showcasing her keen eye for social nuances and her subtle psychological insight. Violet Hunt was associated with the likes of Ford Madox Ford, with whom she had a turbulent relationship, and she was also a co-founder of the Women Writers” Suffrage League.
