My name is Donna. I work with children with end stage kidney disease who are on dialysis. I have studied kidney disease and the treatments required for these children to sustain their lives. Some of the children are not motivated about an uncertain future or how long they will live. By writing this series of educational books, the children are going to be involved in the writings and illustrations that make up the books. I work with these children three or more days a week and see their frustrations and fears about what kind of life they may have, and through these books, I want to encourage creative expression that may lead the children to a career path in the arts. I live in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and have worked at St. Christopher”s Hospital for Children for thirty-two years. I have been working with the dialysis children for five years and have come to know them very well. I too am fearful about some of their futures, and if I can help them by involvement in this book production, I will feel I have given them something to associate with that is positive.
