The Brothers Karamazov is the final novel by the Russian author Fyodor Dostoyevsky. Dostoyevsky spent nearly two years writing The Brothers Karamazov, which was published as a serial in The Russian Messenger and completed in November 1880. Dostoyevsky composed the book with a variety of literary techniques. The Brothers Karamazov has had a deep influence on many writers and philosophers that followed it. Admirers of the novel include Albert Einstein, Ludwig Wittgenstein, Martin Heidegger, Cormac Mc Carthy and Kurt Vonnegut. Sigmund Freud called it ‘the most magnificent novel ever written’ and was fascinated with the book for its Oedipal themes.
