This book represents an attempt of a synthesis of evolutionary computation and generative art in the field of visual art. At the core are such dichotomies as growth and form, persistence and self-similiarity, chance and necessity and a gallery of corresponding images. The gallery comprises the themes machine art (Tinguely), fractal worlds (Mandelbrot), chance and necessity (Monod), imploding and exploding (Meta-Meta-Malevich), inside and outside (Meta-Meta-Kandinsky) as well as controlled diversified repliication.

Hans-Michael Voigt studierte Regelungstechnik und promovierte und habilitierte in Technischer Kybernetik. Forschungstätigkeiten im industriellen und akademischen Bereich führten zur Informatik und zu Evolutionären Algorithmen sowie zur Anwendung des Computers für visuelle Kunst.

Hans-Michael Voigt studied control engineering at the Technical University Chemnitz. There he received also the Dr.-Ing. degree in Technical Cybernetics and from the Academy of Sciences, Berlin, the Dr. sc. techn. degree in Technical Cybernetics. Research positions in industry and academia guided him to computer science and evolutionary computation, and eventually to computer applications in the visual arts.
