Mr Otter and his friends, Needles the Hedgehog and The Squirrel, have lived peacefully by the river for years. Their lives trundle on from day to day with nothing much happening and that’s the way they like it. But, one day, the riverbank quiet is interrupted by loud bangs and crashes. Mr Otter is not happy about this and he and his friends set out to investigate the source of all that noise. He sets off expecting to give someone a stern telling-off but ends up being introduced to new friends. Soon he will find that he needs their help and that he has to rely on others. He learns that solid friendship can be found in unexpected places.

I’ve been a designer and illustrator for over 30 years with a career in London before coming to New Zealand in 2002. When we arrived, I formed Chocolate Dog Studio with my husband Neil who’s a photographer. We named the company after our very naughty dog; Monty The Chocolate Lab.I love animals and, for me, my job couldn’t be better. I get to paint and draw animals all day long, whether it’s children’s books or animal portrait commissions.We’ve been settled in Mapua since 2010 and these days we have a new Chocolate Dog Dog – a Springer Spaniel pup named Archie.
