Part three takes up the analysis of jazz itself, its history, issues of transcription, and the nature of improvised solos. Laurent Cugny is a musician and professor of music and musicology at Sorbonne University. He has toured and recorded with Gil Evans and conducted the French Orchestre National de Jazz and is author of several books, including Eurojazzland: Jazz and European Sources, Dynamics, and Contexts.
