Martyn Rady, geboren 1955, lehrte als Professor für Mitteleuropäische Geschichte am University College London, wo er den Masaryk-Lehrstuhl innehatte. Darüber hinaus trat er als Übersetzer und Herausgeber mittelalterlicher Texte hervor. Für seine Arbeiten wurde er mehrfach ausgezeichnet. Zuletzt erschien sein viel gelobtes Buch «Die Habsburger. Aufstieg und Fall einer Weltmacht», über das der «Tagesspiegel» schrieb: «Ein Buch, das seinen Stoff wirkungsvoll verdichtet, Thesen und Zuspitzungen nicht scheut und vor allem eines ist: eine fesselnde Lektüre.»
