Work is a first class social phenomenon. How working people are seen and see themselves, how work is valued and rewarded, shaped, promoted and demanded provides an indication of the structure, dynamics and ethos of a society. Taking a broad spectrum, this volume highlights the key issues surrounding the social ethics of work in the New Testament. Slavery and entrepreneurship, money and wages, mission and church building, the Sabbath and labor markets form the focal points of a search for ethical orientation that was characteristic of early Christianity.
