Tshilidzi Marwala is an artificial intelligence (AI) engineer, currently serving as the Rector of the United Nations University. He has contributed significantly to AI applications in engineering, economics, and education. Previously the President of the University of Johannesburg, he championed the integration of advanced technologies into academia, emphasizing the role of AI in addressing global challenges. With a Ph D in AI from the University of Cambridge and numerous publications, Marwala is a prominent advocate for responsible AI development. He is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
