There have been enormous research efforts in the development and characterization of materials and search for their applications during the last two decades. Glasses, ceramic and polymeric systems are being intensively investigated for the development of next generation devices. These materials have unprecedented physical properties that can be tailored to meet the requirements of a particular application.
