Xin Qiji (1140-1207), named You’an and Jiaxuan, was born in Licheng, Shandong Province. During the conflict between the Song Dynasty and the Jin Dynasty, Xin Qiji was born in Shandong while living under Jin Dynasty administration. When he was young, Geng Jing’s rebel army was added to the uprising commanded by Xin Qiji’s warriors. Xin Qiji led his army to the south and returned to the Southern Song Dynasty after Geng Jing was murdered. Xin Qiji excelled at politics and the military with remarkable talent and foresight. In addition to making a clear plan, he strongly urged the Southern Song Dynasty to fight the northern Jin Dynasty and reclaim the lost territory. However, Xin Qiji’s intentions and appeals were never given the court’s full attention during his life, and he frequently remained idle as a result of the impeachment of other officials. Xin Qiji turned to poetry because he had nowhere else to put his passion and talent on show. As a result, he is considered to be the first poet in literature history. This book tells the story of Xin Qiji from the viewpoint of the sword he wields. In addition to detailing Xin Qiji’s early military career of "raising the banner of righteousness and led over 10, 000 martyrs to resist the Jin army when young", this unique perspective also describes Xin Qiji’s outrage, loneliness, and helplessness, which he was able to feel before but was unable to express after his crossing to the south. In this book, Xin Qiji”s aim to "recovering the lost land for the sovereign is everlasting fame that we would win" is not only entirely comprehensible, but we can also fully comprehend his anguish at "looking at this precious knife and fiercely patting all the railings upstairs, but no one understood my intention to climb the stairs now". Children will feel as though they are in the audience and interacting with people as they read thanks to the illustrator Zhang Yunkai’s vibrant, incredibly archaic pictures that bring a lot of color to the text.
