Ida Laura Pfeiffer (1797–1858) was an Austrian travel writer, ethnographer, and explorer famous for being one of the first female travellers. She travelled over 270, 000 kilometers by land and sea through the Americas, Southeast Asia, Middle East, and Africa, circling the globe twice between 1846 and 1855. During her journeys, she collected many specimens of plants and animal life, much of which was sold to the British Museum and Museum für Naturkunde in Berlin.
