Irving Bacheller (1859-1950) was an American journalist and novelist who founded the first modern newspaper syndicate.  His bestselling novels, many of which were set in the North Country of New York State in the early days of the United States, include “D’ri  and I, ” (1901), Darrel of the Blessed Isles (1903), and The Harvesting (1934).
