About the author


Isabella Bird (1831-1904) was an English writer and natural historian.  Her world travels, and her writings about them, made her famous.  She was the first woman inducted into the Royal Geographical Society (1892).  Her best-known works today are A Lady’s Life in the Rocky Mountains (1879) and Among the Tibetans (1894).
