Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (1859–1930) was a British writer and physician, most famous for creating the character Sherlock Holmes, who is now one of the most iconic literary figures in the detective genre. Born in Edinburgh, Conan Doyle studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh, where he began to write short stories.
