‘Dracula’s Guest’ is a short story written by Bram Stoker, first published posthumously in 1914, two years after Stoker’s death. It’s often considered a deleted chapter or an early draft of Stoker’s famous novel ‘Dracula, ‘ though it was not included in the original edition of the novel.
The story follows an unnamed Englishman who is traveling through Munich, Germany, on his way to Transylvania. As he ventures out on a solitary carriage ride, he finds himself caught in a sudden and violent thunderstorm. Seeking shelter from the storm, he takes refuge in a cemetery, where he encounters a strange and beautiful woman.
As the Englishman converses with the mysterious woman, he becomes increasingly unsettled by her cryptic remarks and unearthly demeanor. Eventually, he realizes that he has stumbled upon a dark and supernatural presence, and he must fight to escape its clutches before it’s too late.
‘Dracula’s Guest’ is praised for its atmospheric writing, eerie mood, and sense of foreboding. While it’s not as well-known as ‘Dracula, ‘ Stoker’s iconic vampire novel, it remains a chilling and suspenseful tale that showcases his talent for crafting Gothic horror narratives.
