This study on the illumination by Birago follows the one published in 2014 and entitled ‘The illumination by Birago in the Sforziad incunabulum in Warsaw: in defense of Horodyski’s thesis and a new hypothesis’. It contains some surprising innovations. The research consists of two parts. In this Part I, the grandiose ‘symbolic narration’ of Birago – an artist whose biography proves the personal connection with the party of Galeazzo Maria Sforza and Bona di Savoia – comes to confirm Horodyski’s thesis. The Warsaw illumination in the end reveals itself as a sort of epic that evokes – in addition to the Sforzas – also characters remained in the shadow until now, and in particular the tragic figure of Cicco Simonetta. The Part II, published soon, is concerning some decryptions dated 2023 of perfect Latin anagrams from the inscriptions of the illumination. The anagrams offer the confirmation of Horodyski’s interpretation, leading back to the aura of mystery that surrounds Glori’s research on the criptic cartouches of Leonardo’s portraits. And finally it is the figure of Leonardo himself who is called into question with documented arguments and references to his artistic production.
