CAROLYN WAKEMAN, Ph D, is an historian, writer, and independent scholar. She is a former professor at U.C. Berkeley”s Graduate School of Journalism and author, among other books, of Assignment Shanghai: Photographs on the Eve of Revolution (Series in Contemporary Photography), with Ken Light (U.C. Press, 2003); The Charm of the Place: Old Lyme in the 1920s (Old Lyme, 2011); and Forgotten Voices: The Hidden History of a New England Meetinghouse (Wesleyan, 2019). Wakeman, a charter trustee of the FG Museum, is editor of its History Blog. She leads the Witness Stones Old Lyme project that commemorates with brass plaques persons enslaved in the historic town of Lyme.
