In a Sleep Inn in Bez Valley, Ella Neser finds his tracks. But she also has her hands full with the murder of a corrupt official from Home Affairs, found frozen and naked, with his throat cut. A journalist suspects that he supplied South African documents to Muslim militants and other customers willing to pay.

Karsten won the ATKV Prose Prize for his novel, Frats, in 2008 and the ATKV prize for crime fiction for Seisoen van sonde in 2010. Seisoen van sonde was also shortlisted for the MNet Film Award. He is an experienced newspaperman (He started out as crime reporter and has worked for Beeld, Volksblad and Rapport). Abel se lot follows on Abel se ontwaking, which was published in 2010. Die afreis van Abel Lotz, the third book in the trilogy appeared in 2012. Karsten won the second prize in NB Publishers’ Big Afrikaans Novel Competition for ’n Man van min belang, published in 2013. A movie based on The Skin Collector will be released by end 2014.
