David R. Cartlidge is the Ralph W. Beeson Professor of Religion Emeritus at Maryville College in Maryville, Tennessee. He is the author, with J. Keith Elliott, of Art and the Christian Apocrypha (2001). He and the late David L. Dungan published the first edition of Documents for the Study of the Gospels in 1980 and a second edition in 1994. David L. Dungan was distinguished professor of the humanities and emeritus professor of New Testament and early Christianity at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville until his death in 2008.
