《红楼梦》是中国文化集大成的作品,它将中国数千年来的哲学认知、历史经验、伦理秩序、审美倾向、世事人情囊括一书,一部《红楼梦》塑造的栩栩如生的文学人物达400余人,与莎士比亚所有剧作塑造的人物数量相近,是当之无愧的世界文化、世界文学的经典。
《红楼梦》诞生二百余年、红学诞生一百余年,文人创作的《红楼梦》绘画数量极少,由于历史的变迁,加之藏在深闺、分布各处等诸多原因,社会和学界所知甚微。文人绘画只是偶尔一见,集中观览清代文人《红楼梦》绘画,特别是彩绘,就成为诸多《红楼梦》爱好者研究者的一种奢望。
现在,庞辉先生怀着对中国传统文化的深厚感情,集各界之力,策划将这些书画和解读研究文章付梓出版,汇成《红楼选梦—-红楼梦古代书画集萃》一书,填补了非官方中美两国乃至世界的关于《红楼梦》绘本的空白,本书中的古画都是首次面市,件件精品,给广大红学研究者爱好者带来极具史料价值资料,也给全世界热爱东方绘画的专家学者、爱好者提供丰富真实的素材。
The classic Chinese Dream of the Red Chamber is a collection of Chinese culture. It incorporates Chinese people’s philosophical cognition, historical experience, moral order, aesthetic tendency, and worldly wisdom accumulated over thousands of years. The book alone shapes lifelike literary characters of more than 400, roughly equivalent to the total number of characters created by Shakespeare in his dramas. The Dream of the Red Chamber is a well-deserved classic of world culture and world literature.
The Dream of the Red Chamber came into birth more than two hundred years ago, and redology more than one hundred years ago. All the time, paintings created by Qing scholars on the Dream of the Red Chamber are little known to the society and the academic circle of historical changes, private collection, scattered distribution, and many other reasons. Such paintings can only be seen once in a while. That is why the Dream enthusiasts and researchers have been yearning for intensively appreciating paintings, especially color paintings, themed on the Dream created by Qing scholars.
Today, Mr. Pang Hui, with deep affection for traditional Chinese culture, plans to publish the related calligraphy, paintings, and research articles in a book called ‘Selected Dreams of the Red Chamber– A Collection of Ancient Calligraphy and Paintings on the Dream of the Red Chamber.’ The new book fills the blank of unofficial Dream-related picture books in China, America, and even the world. The ancient paintings in this book are made public for the first time. Each of them is a treasure. They will bring data of great historical significance to vast redology researchers and enthusiasts and provide abundant accurate materials for experts, scholars, and lovers of Oriental paintings worldwide.

The author, Mr. Pang Hui, born in Changzhou, Jiangsu, China, has researched and collected Chinese artworks for 35 years. He has a broad interest covering calligraphy, paintings, Buddha statues, porcelain, furniture, bamboo carvings, wood carvings, and stone carvings, emphasizing the study of Jinling Style paintings, Six-Dynasty Buddha statues of China, and other artworks of ancient Jinling Capital. In particular, he is fond of collecting old rosewood and yellow rosewood furniture. He is now a consultant for Jiangsu International Culture Exchange Center and North American Chinese Collection Association vice president. Mr. Pang Hui has committed himself to Chinese cultural exchange. He has planned to publish a series of books on the intangible cultural heritage of China. Among them, two books have been published in the United States.
