K.N. Ninan (b. 1950) had his early education at Nairobi, Kenya. He migrated to India in June 1964 and continued his education at Trivandrum. He obtained his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Economics from the University of Kerala, Trivandrum, in 1972 and 1974 respectively. He then accepted a fellowship to pursue his doctoral studies at the Institute for Social and Economic Change, Bangalore, in 1975. He was awarded Ph D in Economics by the University of Mysore in 1984. Dr. Ninan is presently working as Assistant Professor at the Institute for Social and Economic Change, Bangalore. He has ten years’ professional experience and has published a number of research papers in professional journals including Economic and Political Weekly and the Indian Journal of Agricultural Economics. He has co-authored the following studies : ‘A Study of Papers Rejected by the Indian Journal of Agricultural Economics*, and ‘Socio-Economic Dimensions of Rural Housing’. Presently, Dr. Ninan is working on a study entitled ‘Edible Oilseeds : Growth and Supply Behaviour in India’ on behalf of the Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India.
