Mickey is aware from an early age that the world is against him. This is a fact.
Armed with this information, nothing can defeat his devil-may-care attitude, nor stop him getting exactly what he needs. Except perhaps for the fact that he can do nothing right.
Why is Mickey Collins so hopeless?

His older brother teaches him skills such as pre-teen drinking, drug taking and Breaking & Entering, which seem to help, but somehow are not enough. His uncle Con shows him the finer points of shoplifting and how to strip a house of metal. But even this brings no real joy. Perhaps The State can teach this young man a thing or two?
After God has a go, there is only one thing for it: Mickey must learn a lesson from his mother.
