Gerhard Treutlein (Dr. phil.), geb. 1940, war Professor für Sportpädagogik an der Pädagogischen Hochschule Heidelberg. Parallel dazu entwickelte er sich zum Spezialisten für Dopinggeschichte und -prävention. Für seine Forschungen, Arbeiten und ehrenamtliches Engagement wurde er 2007 zum Ehrenmitglied im Allgemeinen Deutschen Hochschulsportverband ernannt. 2009 erhielt er das Bundesverdienstkreuz am Bande der Bundesrepublik Deutschland und wurde 2016 mit dem Ethikpreis des Deutschen Olympischen Sportbundes ausgezeichnet.
